The Ethereum Foundation published on X a summary of 35 launches, upgrades, and announcements from the Ethereum ecosystem in August, covering institutional tokenization, privacy infrastructure, agentic wallets, and layer-2 expansion. The list reflects a network that spent the month absorbing large financial players while also shipping foundational tools that had been years in development.

BlackRock introduced the BlackRock Select Treasury Based Liquidity Fund with a tokenized share class on Ethereum mainnet for managing stablecoin and digital asset reserves. The firm also began tokenizing share classes of its $311 billion European money market fund series on Ethereum. Revolut launched its euro-denominated stablecoin EURR on Ethereum for eligible users. Aave v4 surpassed $525 million in deposits on Ethereum mainnet.

Those three moves landed in the same month, which is not coincidental. The tokenized treasury market has grown substantially in 2026, and Ethereum remains the primary settlement layer for institutional-grade tokenized instruments. RWA.xyz data showed the total value of tokenized real-world assets across tracked blockchain networks exceeded $38 billion by August, with Ethereum holding the largest share of that market by deployed value. BlackRock's dual move, a new fund on mainnet and tokenization of its existing European series, represents one of the largest single-month institutional commitments to Ethereum's tokenization layer on record.

Uniswap, Robinhood Chain, and the stock token numbers

Uniswap processed more than $1 billion in stock token volume and more than $20 billion in total volume on Robinhood Chain since the layer-2 network launched in July. Morpho crossed $880 million in total deposits on Robinhood Chain in less than two months and reached $5.75 billion in total deposits on Base.

Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum layer-2 built for tokenized stocks and settlement outside standard US market hours. The $1 billion in stock token volume on Uniswap within the first two months of Robinhood Chain's existence is a notable benchmark for a market that has spent years debating whether decentralized trading infrastructure could handle regulated equity products at scale. Uniswap v4 launched Permissioned Pools in August, a hook standard that enforces allowlists on swaps and liquidity deposits while keeping the protocol itself permissionless. Launch partners included Superstate, Securitize, and Dowgo, each of which operates in the tokenized securities space.

Coinbase Tokenized Stocks launched on Base for non-US users, held one-to-one by a regulated custodian and usable across DeFi around the clock. The product puts tokenized equity directly into self-custody wallets, a structural difference from prior tokenized stock products that required custodian-controlled accounts.

Privacy infrastructure reached production in August

Aztec Network launched Alpha v5, a protocol upgrade that reduced private transaction proving times and brought the first wave of privacy-preserving applications to the network. The Interfold, an open-source protocol for confidential coordination and encrypted execution, launched its Network Alpha production environment. Privacy-focused wallet Cloaked reached $650,000 in deposits and $1 million in volume in its first 90 days. Zero Protocol launched onchain payroll support, allowing employers to provide recurring wage payments with privacy for salary amounts and recipient addresses.

Aztec's proving time reduction matters because it directly affects user experience. Zero-knowledge proof generation has historically required seconds to minutes per transaction, which made private transactions impractical for routine use. Alpha v5's improvements move the network closer to the latency profile users expect from standard blockchain transactions. The Ethereum Foundation also launched the better.codes autoresearch challenge to advance post-quantum Ethereum, built with ZKSecurity and EigenLabs, placing a machine-verified security problem on a public leaderboard.

GnosisDAO approved a transition from its own layer-1 to a ZK-proven Ethereum layer-2 rollup with synchronous composability, which allows applications on Gnosis and Ethereum to interact within a single transaction. Whitechain also announced a move from an independent layer-1 to an Ethereum layer-2 built on the OP Stack.

The layer-2 consolidation pattern these moves reflect has been building throughout 2026. Independent layer-1 networks that built their initial ecosystems on EVM compatibility have faced a structural choice between maintaining sovereignty with shrinking security budgets and joining Ethereum's settlement layer where shared security reduces operational cost. GnosisDAO's vote and Whitechain's announcement both represent that second path.

Arbitrum activated ArbOS Elara, bringing more responsive fees and four times larger Stylus smart contracts to Arbitrum One. MetaMask launched its Agent Wallet with built-in spending limits, allowlists, and risk profiles. Cloudflare announced wallet functionality enabling AI agents to purchase APIs and content with stablecoin payments over the x402 standard.

The Ethereum Foundation confirmed Devcon 8 will take place in Mumbai in November and released the official travel guide.
