Pudgy Penguins has officially ended development of its mobile game Pudgy Party, less than a year after its global launch. The announcement came on June 12 via the game’s official X account @PlayPudgyParty, accompanied by a detailed statement that confirmed the project’s closure and a strategic shift toward its browser-based title, Pudgy World.
The decision marks a major pivot for the brand, which has expanded rapidly across gaming, NFTs, and consumer products over the past year.

Official statement confirms full wind down
In its announcement, the team made its position clear:
"Today, we are making the decision to wind down Pudgy Party and halt further development."
The statement highlighted the game’s early success, including a #1 ranking on the App Store, more than one million downloads, and the creation of a strong player community. It also emphasized the role Pudgy Party played in expanding the Pudgy Penguins intellectual property.
"We are incredibly proud of what Pudgy Party achieved: launching at #1 on the App Store, building a large daily player community, reaching over 1 million downloads, and most importantly, helping spread the Pudgy Penguins IP far and wide."
Despite these milestones, the company chose to consolidate its efforts into a single flagship experience.
Why Pudgy Party was discontinued
According to the official communication, the decision came down to long-term scalability and product direction. Pudgy Penguins stated that Pudgy World offers greater potential across storytelling, performance, and user experience.
"That said, we have seen that Pudgy World is on track to surpass these milestones and go even further."
The team described Pudgy World as a more advanced platform with stronger technical foundations and broader appeal. Unlike Pudgy Party, which relied on mobile gameplay loops similar to Fall Guys-style party games, Pudgy World operates as a browser-based environment with a focus on exploration and narrative.
The shift also aligns with internal priorities. Pudgy World is fully owned by the company, which gives the team more control over development and monetization compared to Pudgy Party, which was co-developed with Mythical Games.
Pudgy World becomes the core product
Pudgy World launched in March 2026 as a free-to-play browser game set in a virtual space known as The Berg. It includes 12 towns, quest-based progression, and mini-games, all designed to feel accessible to mainstream players.
The team reinforced this direction in its statement:
"Pudgy World continues to grow rapidly, delivers one of the most fun and novel web experiences out there, and being wholly ours, has everything we need to make it the flagship gaming product of the Pudgy Penguins universe."
Market reaction followed the launch earlier this year, with the PENGU token rising 9% on release day. At the time of writing, PENGU trades at $0.007291 with a market cap near $458 million, based on CoinMarketCap data.
Community backlash grows
The shutdown triggered immediate backlash across social media. Pudgy Party had built a dedicated audience, with nearly 100,000 followers on X and recognition as the “Best Mobile Game for Couples” in 2025.
Many players expressed frustration over lost time and money spent on in-game purchases, including NFT-based items. The announcement did not provide details on refunds, asset transfers, or compensation, which became a central concern in community responses.
The reaction reflects broader tensions in crypto gaming, where ownership of digital assets often raises expectations about long-term value and usability.
Financial pressure and broader context
Additional context emerged from community discussions. Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz reportedly told users that the company had lost millions while supporting Pudgy Party.
The closure places Pudgy Party among several blockchain-based games that shut down across 2025 and 2026. Titles such as Deadrop, Nyan Heroes, and MetalCore also ceased operations during this period, often due to funding challenges or weak product-market fit.
Pudgy Penguins continues to expand outside gaming. The brand has generated over $10 million in physical toy sales through major retailers such as Walmart and Target. It has also secured partnerships with Visa and Manchester City, which signals a broader strategy beyond crypto-native audiences.
Legal pressure adds uncertainty
The transition comes amid legal challenges. In March 2026, PEI Licensing, the parent company of the Original Penguin apparel brand, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in Florida. The complaint alleges that Pudgy Penguins’ branding creates confusion and weakens the value of its long-established trademark.
The outcome of that case remains unresolved.
What remains unclear
Despite the detailed announcement, key questions remain unanswered. The company has not clarified what will happen to Pudgy Party assets, including NFTs and purchased items. There is also no timeline for server shutdown or support termination.
For now, Pudgy Penguins has made its direction clear. The team will focus entirely on Pudgy World as its central gaming product.
"We are incredibly grateful to every player and community member who supported Pudgy Party and made it what it is."
"Thank you for everything. We’ll see you inside Pudgy World."
