Ripple Prime launched support for real-world asset perpetual swaps, which provided institutional clients access to more than 100 reference markets spanning equities, equity indices, ETFs, metals, energy and foreign exchange, all tradable and settled around the clock. Virtu is among the first institutional clients using the new product, according to Ripple's October 15th announcement.
2026 is the year of RWA perps, and today, @Ripple Prime is enabling institutional clients to trade and settle RWA swaps against over 100 reference markets, cross-margined against other asset classes 24/7.

Single counterparty relationship, centralized risk management and…
The swaps trade through Ripple Prime acting as principal, referencing perpetual futures contracts listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives venue known for high transaction throughput. Because the reference markets trade continuously, including weekends, clients get exposure to assets that normally only trade during fixed exchange hours, a structural change from how equities and commodities have traded for decades.
"RWA swaps are where traditional and digital markets meet," said Michael Higgins, International CEO of Ripple Prime. "Institutions want exposure to equities, commodities, and currencies with the round-the-clock access and efficiencies of digital infrastructure. Ripple Prime was built to operate in both worlds, with deep experience clearing trades and managing digital collateral and risk across venues, 24/7. With RWA swaps, we are enabling clients to execute increasingly sophisticated trading strategies and actively manage their portfolios in response to today's dynamic global markets."
Cross-margining and RLUSD as collateral
A core part of the pitch is consolidation. Clients can cross-margin their RWA swap positions against other asset classes Ripple Prime already supports, and they can post Ripple USD, the company's RLUSD stablecoin, as collateral for these transactions. That setup gives institutions a single counterparty relationship and centralized risk management across what would otherwise be separate accounts spread across multiple venues, rather than juggling margin requirements position by position across different platforms.
Scotte Moegling, head of business development for digital assets at Virtu, framed the appeal around efficiency rather than novelty.
"Virtu is ramping up across emerging liquidity pools, and Ripple Prime's 24/7 cross-margining across asset classes helps us expand our presence more efficiently as markets move toward round-the-clock access," he said.
Where this sits in Ripple's broader license footprint
Ripple is currently offering the RWA swaps product out of Ripple Prime's CIV BVI license, with plans to expand into additional regions over time. The company describes itself as holding more than 85 licenses globally, positioning itself as a single entry point for enterprises across payments, custody, prime brokerage and treasury management. Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin and its XRP token underpin those services, according to the company, bridging traditional and digital finance infrastructure.
Ripple built out this prime brokerage license infrastructure largely through its 2025 acquisition of Hidden Road, a global multi-asset prime broker that gave Ripple regulatory footholds and clearing relationships it did not previously hold on its own. That acquisition is the backbone behind Ripple Prime's ability to offer this kind of cross-asset margining today, since prime brokerage licensing and clearing relationships typically take years to build from scratch rather than something a crypto-native company can stand up quickly on its own.
A market that has grown quickly in a short window
Perpetual futures contracts tied to real-world assets have seen rapid growth in trading volume this year, and Ripple's own announcement points to this as part of the rationale behind the launch. Open interest in RWA perpetuals across the broader market has reportedly climbed toward roughly $9 billion, a figure that puts this corner of the derivatives market on a growth trajectory comparable to how crypto-native perpetual futures scaled in their earlier years on platforms like BitMEX and Binance before spreading to nearly every major exchange. Hyperliquid itself has become one of the largest venues for perpetual futures trading by volume, which makes it a logical choice of underlying infrastructure for a product built around referencing those same contracts.
Ripple's broader tokenization push extends beyond this single product. The company has pursued partnerships with firms including DriveWealth and Securitize, both active in bringing traditional securities and investment products onto blockchain rails, suggesting RWA swaps fit into a wider strategy rather than standing as an isolated launch. Ripple did not specify a timeline for expanding RWA swaps access beyond its current BVI license, though the company's announcement frames additional regional rollout as a near-term priority.
