Solana's official account blocked Polygon on X today, and the screenshot became one of the most shared posts on crypto Twitter. Nothing about it involves the networks themselves. It is a public spat between two projects that have traded barbs for years.

How the exchange unfolded

Polygon started it on Oct. 28 to 29 by posting a short video of itself unmuting Solana's account. The caption read "nobody make this weird".

Solana quote-posted it right away. There was no text, only a screenshot showing it had blocked Polygon. Polygon replied with a single word: "what".

Raydium and Sandeep Nailwal join the timeline

Raydium, a major decentralized exchange on Solana, joined in with "Polygone" and added blocking screenshots and memes of its own.

Earlier the same day, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal had posted:

"Everyone has beef now. Polygon and Solana had lore."

In hindsight, the line reads like a setup.

Replies were mixed. Some users compared the exchange to exes blocking each other, and others called it "cartel activity". A few rolled their eyes at two high-profile projects acting this way in public. The spat is spreading partly because the market is quiet and inter-chain rivalry reliably draws attention on CT.

Where the rivalry comes from

The "lore" Nailwal mentioned goes back to 2022, when public arguments involving Nailwal and Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz touched on VC funding, centralization claims, network outages and user growth.

The outage argument has real history behind it. Solana went down for roughly 17 hours in September 2021 after a flood of bot transactions during a token sale on the Grape Protocol launchpad. A second major halt in February 2024 lasted about five hours. Solana has since promoted Firedancer, a second validator client built by Jump Crypto, as a way to reduce the risk of a single software bug stopping the network.

Polygon has faced its own scrutiny over how it describes itself. Its proof-of-stake chain is an Ethereum-compatible network, and critics in past debates questioned how decentralized it was. In September 2024 the project moved its native token from MATIC to POL as part of a broader upgrade. It now pitches AggLayer, a system meant to connect separate chains so users can move between them more smoothly.

No impact on networks or users

Nothing in the posts points to a technical or business dispute. No bridge problem, validator issue or partnership break has been reported. Both chains continue to run normally.

Solana currently focuses on high throughput, capital markets and consumer apps. Polygon is concentrating on payments, AggLayer and EVM scaling. Tokens, user funds and interoperability are not affected by who has blocked whom on X.
