MoneyGram launches stablecoin card on Stellar network

MoneyGram launched a stablecoin-backed card on September 10, giving customers the ability to hold a stable-dollar balance, spend anywhere Visa is accepted, and access cash through MoneyGram's retail network. The card is available now in Colombia, with expansion to additional markets planned in the coming months.

"We're giving customers more freedom and control to manage their money, all in one place," said Anthony Soohoo, Chairman and CEO of MoneyGram. "The MoneyGram Card builds on the power of our global payments network, bringing a stable-dollar balance, everyday spending and cash access into the MoneyGram experience customers already use and trust."

The card was developed with Rain, an enterprise infrastructure provider for stablecoin payments, combining Rain's card infrastructure, Crossmint's wallet capabilities, and the Stellar network for settlement. Customers can sign up within the MoneyGram app and add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for tap-to-pay purchases. Cash access works through transfers to a MoneyGram balance, redeemable at nearby retail locations.

MoneyGram serves more than 60 million active customers across over 200 countries and territories, with nearly 500,000 retail locations. A physical card option is planned for late 2026, adding ATM withdrawals and in-person purchases in markets where digital card acceptance remains limited.

Solana sets record with 263,000 tokens launched in a day

Solana processed more than 263,000 new token deployments in a single day on September 9, 2026, a new record for the network, according to SolScan data. The milestone was first flagged publicly by CryptoTwitter commentator @SolanaFloor.

The scale stands out against Solana's typical daily activity, and the network's low fees and fast transaction processing are widely credited as the infrastructure that made a launch spree of this size possible without disruption.

Despite the volume, there was zero reported trading volume for these new tokens in the 24 hours following the surge. That gap separates creation activity from actual capital movement. A quarter-million tokens deployed does not confirm that any meaningful trading demand followed.

The record arrives as the broader crypto market shows mixed and uneven momentum across assets, making Solana's spike more visible by contrast. Whether the activity translates into sustained trading volume, market cap growth, or renewed developer commitment remains unconfirmed. For now, the milestone reflects raw network capacity and experimentation rather than proven demand.

Nasdaq invests $100M in Kraken parent for tokenized stocks

Nasdaq announced on September 10 that its venture arm, Nasdaq Ventures, will invest $100 million in Payward, the parent company of Kraken, deepening a partnership focused on tokenized equities and always-on market infrastructure.

The companies are advancing the Nasdaq Equity Token framework, with launch expected in the second quarter of 2027. The NET framework connects tokenized equities to Payward's xStocks ecosystem, building on plans Nasdaq first announced earlier this year.

"Expanding our relationship with Payward reflects our conviction that the company can play an important role in building the infrastructure that supports this evolution," said Tal Cohen, President of Nasdaq.

Payward Co-CEO Arjun Sethi framed the case for onchain settlement in concrete terms.

"More than $2 trillion of stock trades run through the U.S. clearing system every day... Onchain settlement removes the wait," Sethi said, noting that cutting settlement from two days to one in 2024 alone released $3 billion in collateral.

As part of the deal, Payward will adopt Nasdaq's market surveillance technology across its trading venues, spanning crypto, equities, tokenized equities, futures, and options. Wells Fargo served as Nasdaq's exclusive capital markets advisor on the transaction.

Uzbekistan launches a som-pegged HUMO stablecoin pilot

Uzbekistan launched a pilot on Monday to test a som-pegged stablecoin called HUMO, backed by government securities and issued through Humo Digital under joint oversight from the National Agency for Prospective Projects and the central bank.

Each HUMO token is pegged one-to-one to the Uzbek som. More than 20 merchants are prepared to test payments for goods and services using the token, with participating banks' payment-processing and blockchain infrastructure integrated into the pilot. Asterium, a licensed crypto exchange, is serving as a project partner.

The initial trial runs for 12 months, with the full project capped at three years. Regulators will assess collateral adequacy and safeguarding, cybersecurity, consumer protections, anti-money laundering controls, and risks to financial and price stability throughout the pilot period.

The launch follows a regulatory framework Uzbekistan approved in November 2025, which established a sandbox for stablecoin payment trials alongside provisions for tokenized shares and bonds. The framework positions Uzbekistan among a small group of countries testing government-securities-backed stablecoins denominated in a local currency rather than the US dollar, a structure that ties the token's stability directly to domestic monetary policy rather than external dollar reserves.
